Dozens of pairs of boots donated to the Boots for the Bush collection bin at Sportscene Super Warehouse in Townsville will be delivered to the island to coincide with the annual Obe Geia Junior Challenge next month.

Cowboys NRL squad member Ray Thompson, helped by students from Rasmussen State School who will take part in the one-day carnival on 12 September, today sorted through some of the hundreds of boots donated in the Boots for the Bush campaign this year.

“I don’t think there are kids anywhere else in the country that love their footy more than the kids over on Palm,” Thompson said.

“They get a game going whenever they can.

“I’m sure there’s going to be a heap of excited young footballers when this shipment of boots arrives over there.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to look after everyone who doesn’t have a pair of footy boots of their own.”

Anyone who donates a pair of boots for the Boots for the Bush campaign receives a $20 discount voucher that can be used for their next purchase at Sportscene.

To donate to Boots for the Bush, drop into the Townsville Sportscene Super Warehouse in Woolcock Street at Currajong or the Rockhampton store on Yaamba Road, North Rockhampton.
