Members and fans will be able to cuddle a puppy before the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys take to the field against the Gold Coast Titans at 1300SMILES Stadium on Saturday night.

With the support of Steggles Charity Nest, the Cowboys’ Community Corner will host Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals who are setting up a puppy pen to help promote their services in the community.

“Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals is a unique rescue service that started in August 2011,” Director Angela Atkinson said.

“Ours is a very personalised service. Many of the pets we get for adoption are from homes where people’s circumstances have changed and they can no longer care for them.

“We also take care of many cats and dogs that have been abandoned or found after being lost.

“We ensure that our personal touch means that we get the right match for animals with the foster carers.

“We wanted to give fans coming to the game the chance to learn about the Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals Rescue Service and thought there would be no better way to get their attention than with a puppy pen.

“They can come to Community Corner, meet the puppies and learn a bit more about what we do.”

The Community Corner space at home games reflects the Cowboys’ and Steggles' commitment to assist volunteer-run charities and not-for-profit organisations to build awareness and support from the local community.

It will open prior to the NRL game from 3pm-5pm.

Twelve charities working in and benefiting the North Queensland community are offered this opportunity throughout the 2014 season.
