The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys’ Field of Dreams initiative and the Cowboys Leagues Club will make it possible for 30 volunteers and clients of Cootharinga’s Rehabilitation Technology Service (RTS) to have a night out at the footy this Saturday night.

They will be the special guests in the Fields of Dreams section at 1300SMILES Stadium when the Cowboys face the Gold Coast Titans in a crucial Queensland derby.

“The RTS is a one-of-a-kind service in North Queensland that has been assisting people with a disability needing repairs or modifications to their wheelchairs or other mobility equipment for over 20 years,” Cootharinga’s Mandy MacDonald said.

“Most often, a standard store-bought wheelchair or piece of mobility equipment has four wheels and a seat that is expected to suit everybody’s shape. This can be very rigid and uncomfortable for many people and as we know all body shapes are different.

“The RTS modifies the wheelchairs to suit the individual, making them more comfortable, easier to use and reducing the need for replacement equipment over time.

“The service also modifies chairs to suit the amazing range of activities people with a disability participate in.

“Whether people like to play sport, go off-road or down the beach, we modify their chairs to give them the mobility they need.”

“The Cowboys’ Field of Dreams is a fantastic initiative and the generosity of the Cowboys Leagues Club in providing game tickets means that our RTS volunteers and clients can relax and spend some extra social time together.”

Since it started, the Cowboys Field of Dreams program has given more than 2,000 special individuals in the community the opportunity to watch an NRL match at 1300SMILES Stadium.

“Cootharinga do a tremendous job supporting North Queenslanders and the Cowboys Leagues Club is very proud to be able to provide these tickets for them this weekend,” Cowboys Leagues Club general manager Clint Williams said.
