There are 1,000 plants up for grabs and North Queensland Toyota Cowboys co-captain Matt Scott will be helping to hand them out between 9.30am and 10.30am.

Residents can take home a native sapling to plant in their own backyard.

“This is an important annual event to celebrate the importance of trees in our community and environment,” Deputy Mayor Cr Vern Veitch said.

“It will be a great morning with the chance to take home your own plant and enjoy a free sausage sizzle and face painting for the kids.”

The event will include displays, demonstrations, free face painting, free sausage sizzle and kids corner.

Every registration goes into draw to win a family pass to the Cowboys v Sea Eagles home game in round 26.

Activities will start at the Murray Skate Park, across from the Townsville RSL Stadium, at 8.30am.

Townsville’s National Tree Day event is proudly sponsored by Mike Carney Toyota.
