Thurston launches JTEE TIME!

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys co-captain Johnathan Thurston has picked the NRL Rivalry Round clash with the Brisbane Broncos at 1300SMILES Stadium on Friday night as the right time to start a new tradition.
The two-time Dally M Medal winner, who is famous for giving away his Madison headgear after every match, today launched “JTee Time” – the opportunity for youngsters in the North Queensland crowd to take home one of JT’s kicking tees from a Cowboys home game for free.
Regarded as one of the game’s best goal-kickers, JT will give away a kicking tee each time he lines up an attempt at goal, either as the conversion of a Cowboys try or a shot at two points from a penalty.
Each tee will be signed by JT and handed out to the lucky recipient – in the western and eastern stands or northern and southern hills - following the shot at goal.
“Hopefully it will be a big hit with the kids,” JT said today.
“I’d like to think we’ll be giving away dozens of tees over the remaining home games this season, starting with the Broncos on Friday night.
“Plenty of tries means plenty of kicking tees being handed over.
“Maybe we can develop some new North Queensland sharpshooters when they start using them at their local footy ground.”
The kicking tees have been provided by one of the greatest goal-kickers of all-time, former New Zealand international Daryl Halligan.
It was Halligan who revolutionised the art of goal-kicking when he started to use a plastic tee before later joining New Zealand’s All Black ranks as a goal-kicking coach.
