Spreading festive cheer with random acts of kindness
Monday 10 December 2012 12:23 PM
The Cowboys’ Random Acts of Kindness Week is underway with North Queensland’s NRL squad members visiting a variety of locations giving away vouchers and presents and paying bills for unsuspecting shoppers.
Ashton Sims, Gavin Cooper, Blake Leary and Kalifa Faifai Loa launched the campaign today by handing over toy hampers and free fuel vouchers and there will be more random acts each day this week as part of the One Community/ NRL clubs joint initiative.
Each location is kept secret but we will keep you updated on what’s taking place on www.cowboys.com.au.
The first stop was the Hot FM studios in Townsville where front-rower Ashton Sims arrived with a $200 hamper of toys to donate to Southern Cross Austereo’s I Believe In Christmas appeal.
The radio station will pass the toys on to the Salvos who will then distribute them to needy local families in time for Christmas.
Later in the day, Cooper, Leary and Faifai Loa turned into Santa Claus to hand out free fuel vouchers to motorists at the Tropic service station in Pimlico.
Six other NRL clubs are involved in the Secret Santa missions this week while others will host Christmas parties for special fans and charities.
The Cowboys have already staged a Members Christmas Party for their 2012 members and those who have signed on for 2013.
NRL General Manager of Community, Culture and Diversity, Ms Trish Crews said: “We’re really excited about bringing some Christmas cheer to a number of communities over the next couple of weeks.
“Christmas is such a fun time of the year and I know our ambassadors and players will really enjoy the opportunity to say thank you to our fans and to bring a smile to their faces.”
