See the Cowboys @ Mackay Sports Expo!

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys NRL squad members Glenn Hall and Gavin Cooper will be part of a huge celebration of art, culture and sport in Mackay on Sunday.

Dubbed Mackay’s Family Big Day Out, it includes three free events on the one day – a Sports Expo, Sign-On Day and Artspace Mackay’s 10th birthday Arty Party.

Hall and Cooper will be special guests at the Sports Expo at the MECC and television personality Heather Foord will join the gallery’s birthday celebrations.

Festival, Events and the Arts portfolio councillor Chris Bonanno said the Mackay Civic Precinct would come alive with the family friendly events.

“It is all free and we encourage everyone to come along and discover more about the sporting and cultural activities in the Mackay region,” Cr Bonanno said.

To celebrate Artspace Mackay’s 10th birthday, the Queensland Art Gallery’s family program, Kids APT on Tour, will lead some enjoyable art activities for children.

“There’ll be a community chess tournament, a local sculptor at work, sculpting timber animals on the council lawn and some great prizes up for grabs.”

Sports and Recreation portfolio councillor Paul Steindl said more than 100 sporting clubs and recreational groups representing 50 different sports would be on show at the Sports Expo.

“Archery, BloKarting, Sailing, Dog Obedience, Lifesaving, Shooting and Table Tennis are some of the activities on display, encouraging participants to have a go,” Cr Steindl said.

“One lucky person will win a family pass to the Cowboys first home game in Townsville and we have $1000 worth of vouchers to give away.”

Hector the Mascot will also make a guest appearance.

The Mackay City Library will also open to complete the mix of art, sports and culture on show at the precinct and will host myriad activities for young children and adults.

Taste@space and Grinders Café will also open on the day for refreshments.
