NYC Cowboys named for pre-season opener

Three players yet to make their NYC debut for the Cowboys have been selected in the starting 13 for the North Queensland under-20s squad’s opening pre-season trial against Northern Pride in Cairns on Saturday.

Coach Todd Wilson has named a 22-player squad to face the Intrust Super Cup club in the first of two trials before round one against Canterbury in Gosford on 9 March.

Wingers Zac Mackay and Lenny Magey and five-eighth Alex Grant are the new faces in the starting team, which also features last year’s Player of the Year and NRL squad member Chris Grevsmuhl, who is still eligible for the NYC competition.

Mackay joined the Cowboys from Penrith earlier this year, while Magey hails from Wests in Brisbane and Grant is from the Ballina Seagulls.

On the bench are six players new to the Cowboys in 2013 – Jorden White, PJ Webb, Sean Young, Andrew Asi-Hunt Niemoller, Mitchell Grimes and triallist Kunro Kalo from Vanuatu.

Saturday night’s game kicks off at Barlow Park at 5pm.
