North Queensland Toyota Cowboys hooker Rory Kostjasyn is off to the Rugby League World Cup after being named in Ireland’s 24-man squad.
It will be the 26-year-old’s first time with the Wolfhounds whose lineup also includes three other NRL players - Brett White (Canberra Raiders), James Hasson (Manly Sea Eagles) and Api Pewhairangi (Parramatta Eels).
Kostjasyn qualifies for Ireland as his grandfather was from the town of Sligo near the border with Northern Ireland.
Head coach Mark Aston selected a total of 10 players from the Super League, with the remaining players coming from Ireland’s Kingstone Press Championship and the NSW Cup.
The squad will be led by Featherstone Rovers halfback Liam Finn who was first chosen as captain by Aston in 2012.
“I am really pleased with the squad we've named, it is a combination of experience and younger up-and-coming players from both hemispheres,” Aston said.
“I am confident that we are fully equipped to be competitive in what is a really tough group and we are really looking forward to the challenge ahead against three of the best teams in the world.”
Ireland kick off their RLWC 2013 campaign against Fiji in Rochdale on Monday 28 October.
They then travel to Huddersfield for a clash against England on Saturday 2 November before taking on Australia in their final group match in Limerick on Saturday 9 November.
